Exhibiting at Earth Day 2013

Late April, we took part in the exhibition accompanying the worldwide “Earth Day”. Our team of ABF was showing the briquets. The booth staff also answered a lot of questions. We are still educating the market, as many people even do not know that briquets as an alternative to charcoal and firewood exist, but everybody we speak to is highly interested and many of the visitors left their business cards for a follow-up. Very encouraging.

Tanneries and Textile Industry using ABF briquests

We are excited that we are constantly expanding our customer base. Lately, two tanneries and an Indian producer of textile fabrics turned to ABF replacing vast amounts of fire wood used in their production with much more environment-friendly briquets.

Finalist in German “out-of-box-thinker”-Award

Our German funder African Social Investment Fund (ASIF) has submitted the African Briquet Factory as an example of out-of-box-thinking. We are proud to report that we made it under the last 5 finalists in the category “thought leaders” (Vordenker). On November 16th, the winners will be awarded.

Serveral media have been covering our inauguration. One article also appeared in an English speaking business magazine, called Capital. The editor quoted Tewolde Berhan G/Egziaber, Director General of Federal Environment Protection Authority: “The building of these factories is an important step towards bringing awareness about protecting the environment as well as giving a choice”. Inauguration event July 11th 2012

With the attendance of Ato Wondemu – state minister for water and energy (MoWE), Dr. Tewolde – Director General of Ethiopian Environmental Protection Agency and numerous other guests – the official inauguration of the briquet factory was a tremendous success. ETV (Ethiopian Television) broadcasted this event in the 8 o clock news, Deutsche Welle made a special report and in the major lay press there have been reports about this event.
